Archery School of the Rockies

    About us

    WELCOME TO

    ARCHERY SCHOOL OF THE ROCKIES

Archery School of the Rockies is a unique environment with a lot to offer.  We pride ourselves on the wide range (get it?) of personalities we’ve attracted to our organization and the variety of reasons they’ve decided to make ASR their home.

Our archers are the reason we show up every day.  Each is on a unique journey with archery and in their life.  We coach archers who are training for Olympic trials and the Paralympic team.  We work with archers who enjoy casual shooting. We equip and practice with archers who have their sights set on bagging that buck when hunting season rolls around.  Those are only a few of the types of archers who frequent ASR.

About Archery School of the Rockies

    It takes a village.

This saying illustrates the importance of support, acceptance, and love. It takes all of us, each doing our part, to succeed. It is an often-used phrase, but in my years as the director of Archery School of the Rockies (ASR), it continues to ring fiercely true.

For me and for the members of ASR, this place is more than just a spot to go shoot a bow. We are a village. Our members help and support each other. They are the reason our school continues to flourish and grow. Our shared vision for this organization is so much more. Let me show you what ASR is…

    Archery for Everyone

ASR has an inclusive demographic environment.

We are a not-for-profit archery school that offers classes for anyone who wants to shoot a bow! And when we say “anyone,” we mean ANYONE: recreational, competitive, hunters, traditional, 3D, and target shooters. Age is not an obstacle. At ASR, we accept archers ages 4 to 104! “Anyone” also includes shooters of all abilities. Our weekly classes serve the physically disabled, vision impaired, and higher functioning mentally disabled. Our programs range from “never picked up a bow in my life” to Olympic-bound athletes and every level in between!

    Giving Back to Our Veterans

    ASR is support.

In Colorado Springs, we serve a large military community and work extensively with the Wounded Warrior Project, Mount Carmel Veterans Service Center, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Department of Veterans Affairs and the Army’s Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU). Dedicated classes for veterans include not only shooting technique but also bow servicing. Veterans and first responders shoot free all-day on Thursdays with free coaching available after 6pm. In this safe and supportive space, we encourage and sponsor our vets to become certified coaches and give back to veterans just beginning their journey.

    Archery-Related Fun

    ASR is fun.

We are not just about serious competition; we embrace and share the fun side of archery! Who wouldn’t enjoy an archery summer camp or day camp? Is there any child (or adult out there, for that matter) who would pass up an invitation to an archery-themed birthday party? Bored with the same old “go-out-to-dinner” date night? We have special events for lovebirds, too! Scouts, senior groups, home school families, and special education classes come to our facility for dedicated events. We offer physical education opportunities and after school programs for any grade level. Our staff will even put together team building events for your employees.

    Teams

    ASR is teamwork.

We have a team for everyone interested in competitive archery, including youth, adult, recurve, and compound disciplines. Our thriving S3DA and JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) programs teach young archers the value of dedication, teamwork, and respect. Our adult teams hone archery skills, delve into the mental side of archery, and offer the social and supportive aspects that come with a team. Our frequent technical camps, often with guest coaches, help our team members improve their skills.

    Events

    ASR is competition.

For those archers up for a challenge, we host a variety of shooting events. Our competitive archery tournaments are USA Archery sanctioned, World Archery approved, and state-level qualifying shoots with both junior and senior divisions. Covering both the indoor and outdoor seasons, as well as target and 3D competitions, we host events for every style. For more casual competitors, we host leagues, series, and tournaments for those that just want to stay in the game. Our popular Buckle Shoot regularly draws hundreds of archers over four events, each vying for a chance to win the buckle in their age group. Not in it for the competition? We offer numerous fun shoots and holiday themed events, including our favorites: Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and our newest event: the pie shoot!

    Coaching Expertise

    ASR is quality coaching.

Our coaches are all USA Archery Certified and have not only passed extensive archery training classes but are also Safe Sport certified and thoroughly background checked.

    Volunteer-Led

ASR is a corps of volunteers.

Our staff and coaches donate thousands of hours collectively to work with students, attend coach training, repair and tune equipment, clean the facility, run the pro shop and kitchen, and staff all our events. None of our successes would happen without our generous volunteers. They have built this organization and sustain it to this day through their passion, dedication, and love of the sport.

    Equipment Experts

ASR is a full-service pro shop.

In addition to an extensive variety of equipment, we have a team of experts to take care of all your archery needs (as well as that wish list you have!). From equipment recommendations to a brand-new bow setup, we provide top notch service and products at affordable prices. Make your bow unique with a custom-made, durable string from our in-house string making company, Bowman’s Bowstrings. Service doesn’t end with the sale; our team can help set up your new equipment or tune your existing gear.

    Our Facility

ASR is a massive building with tons of amenities.

Our 20,000 square foot facility houses over 50 lanes dedicated to 18 meter/20-yard targets. With a simple rotation of our shooting line, you can shoot 30 yards. Our climate-controlled facility lets you shoot no matter what Colorado’s weather is doing that day! Are you a hunter? Our 3D range is easily the most extensive in its collection of 3D target types, sizes, and levels. You can even shoot from an elevated platform! Imagine practicing shooting from a blind in indoor comfort. You will be ready to hit the field on opening day! Plus, our fully stocked coffee shop and kitchen, Flying Arrow Eatery has that cold or warm beverage, light meal, or snack you need to fuel up.

    Then and Now

    ASR is growing.

What began seven years ago as an afterschool program with six students has become a thriving community! We would not be here without the help and support of so many people along the way. With them in mind, we strive to get a little bit better every day. Yes, we are grateful for the highlights achieved and awards received, including sending athletes to the Paralympics and winning the Archery Trade Association’s first outreach award. In the end, however, there is no greater joy than the smile of an archer hitting the bullseye for the first time. ASR is a family-friendly environment in which to learn and grow as an archer. You choose how far you want to go in this sport, and we will be here to help you achieve that goal.
